Daniel Korb

Daniel Korb

Daniel Korb was born in 1958 in Baden, Switzerland. From the begining of his

career, Daniel was fascinated with interior architectural design. Since then, his design expertise has broadened and his inspiration refined. “To sum up 25 years of experience appropriately is not so easy,” says Daniel “the age of Leonardo da Vinci is gone, but still I believe a holistic view to the world is needed.”

His work in office furniture began in 1987 when, working for Fleiner Stuttgart, a leading interior design and furniture dealer, Daniel began to focus on office design. Founding Korb+Korb with partner Susan Korb a year later in 1989, Daniel embarked on the next and latest phase of his career, hailing several innovative products for specialist office furniture companies in Europe. ”To solve the contradiction being both specialist and generalist we decided to become generalist with deep insights in the field of architecture, product design and communication,” says Daniel.

Recognising the potential of the Korb+Korb practice to satisfy both product and

communication issues, Daniel instigated the launch of Korb Networking in 1998

with photographer Guido Kasper and graphic designer Lutz Krause. The success of this venture refocussed Daniel’s efforts and in 1999, Daniel hired Canadian designer Peter Taussig to realise International product designs.

Korb+Korb has earned more than twenty national and international awards for good design in Europe, America and China and has produced eleven key products for furniture companies worldwide. “Everything starts with a strong product,” says Daniel “Good marketing cannot compensate a weak product but can make a strong one even stronger. The right message is the key to the customer and we at Korb+Korb believe that in the future this will become more and more important.”

Daniel is keen to embrace modern trends and solve modern issues. “Globalization is much older than most people believe,” he says “If you can’t stop it, make the best out of it.” And that’s certainly what Korb+Korb are making in-roads with at present. Their mantra is eloquent. They believe that progress is possible; that simple is better than complex.

In an illustrious career to date and with awards and product designs to his name, what has Daniel learned? “Success is never final; it takes a while to understand a business, move before you are moved” he says.
