In 1953 our founder, D J De Pree, stated: "We will be good stewards of the environment." Since then, accountable practice and production has been and always will be our policy.
Behaving responsibly towards the environment should be more than just a policy. At Herman Miller it’s an attitude that permeates every part of our business. Every business decision we make is guided by a sense of responsibility to the environment, to the others who live in it and to those who will follow. The buildings we work in, the designs and materials our products are made from and the people who make them all have a vital role to play. As do our suppliers and the organisations that recycle our products when they have reached the end of their useful life.
After all, sustainability and commercial success are not mutually exclusive ends; instead they should coexist in a beneficial and happy relationship. Policy 53 is the blueprint we use to ensure that, true to our founder’s vision, Herman Miller is a good steward of the environment.
We are constantly striving to improve, and set ourselves challenging environmental targets for the future. This downloadable report deals with many aspects of our environmental programme -- where we stand and where we intend to go.
